Update – June 2023

Good afternoon

I hope this news update finds you all well. We have thoroughly enjoyed the hot, sunny weather of late and many of you have taken the opportunity of getting down to the green to enjoy a few ends of bowls. The calendar has been busy with the first rounds in the club competitions. Congratulations to all who have made it through to the next round! Dana Petroleum had a very successful event last Friday- it was lovely to see the green full with lots of fun and laughter. If you know of any groups that would enjoy a game of bowls let us know so that we can arrange a fun event for them. It is always good to introduce people to the game and give them the opportunity to try bowls in a relaxed, friendly and fun setting.

Although the weather has not been so good over the last couple of days, we are keeping our fingers crossed for the weekend with our Coffee Morning coming up. We are hoping that the sun decides to make an entrance on Saturday morning!

We’d like to thank those of you who have already dropped off donations for the coffee morning. We are hoping to see some more donations this week as we really would like this to be a big fund raiser so please come along with family and friends to support our bowling club this Saturday 1 July.

Our stalls include a Bottle Stall, Chocolate Tombola, Crafts, Book Stall and a big Raffle. We will also have Guess the Sweets in the Jar, Find the Jack on the Green and some fun bowling activities. Please make sure you pay Val Lawrence, our treasurer, for your Coffee Morning tickets. We look forward to giving you all a very warm welcome.
We will be setting up on Friday 30 June from 9.30 am onwards so please come along and help out if you are free.

It is with a heavy heart that I must inform you of the very sad news that Robert Davidson one of our former and much valued member of our Club has passed away. Bob, of 4 Kingswood Mews, Kingswells, Aberdeen, was a 40 year veteran at the club from the early 1980’s until COVID lockdown. He sadly passed away peacefully at home on 24 June. Bowling at the club was a great part of his life after retiring from his career in the Police Service. He cherished all the friendships he had with members and told many stories of the games he played, events and afternoon teas – home and away.
Bob’s funeral will be held at Hazlehead Crematorium East Chapel at 2.30pm on Friday 7 July. The family invite you to refreshments at The Park Cafe, Hazlehead after the service. Family flowers only, all donations will be given to Cancer Research.

We look forward to seeing you all on Saturday.

Kind regards

President Karen
and the Committee of Aberdeen Bowling Club
