100 years of club history
A central, historic venue in the heart of the city
First established in 1883, Aberdeen Bowling Club is the oldest outdoor bowling club in the city. Located at 50 Carlton Place, we are proud to have a central, historic venue for outdoor lawn bowls and the club has maintained a long history of hosting competitive, friendly, games, as well as social events including BBQs and corporate taster sessions.
Part of the community for over 100 years
In the early years The Club was a combination of bowling club, tennis club, and even an ice rink spread over various locations in the area.
1926 saw the redevelopment of The Club on its Carlton Place premises with prestigious turf transported from a marsh at Cockerham on the North West Coast of Lancashire for the laying out of a new Green.
In October 1926, the Aberdeen Bowling and Lawn Tennis Club held a 2 Day Grand Bazaar in Aberdeen Music Hall with the objective of raising funds for the expense of acquiring a new bowling green and pavilion in Carlton Place, as well as the laying out of additional lawn tennis courts in Queen’ s Lane.
2026 is therefore a landmark year in the history of Aberdeen Bowling Club, as it marks a century of the conception and funding of The Green and Clubhouse as we know it today.
The foresight and ambition of Club Members of yesteryear have enabled generations of bowlers to enjoy lawn bowls at Aberdeen Bowling Club, and it is our sincere hope and intention that The Club continues as a haven for bowlers and the local community in the heart of the city.
