Aberdeen Bowling Club Update - February 2026
Dear Member,
We had a very successful AGM last week. Thank you to all members who attended.
We are getting prepared for the outdoor season for 2026 and have already started preparations for the opening of the green. We are busy updating our club website and have now moved to a new platform. A huge thank you to Natalie Hilton, a PR and marketing consultant, for her help, time and support. We are hoping to have our new website launched for the beginning of the season so watch this space. In the meantime, Jane is keeping you updated on our Facebook page. I will also try and keep you informed with regular newsletters.
Fees for the season 2026 were agreed at the AGM and are as follows:-
Ordinary member - £160
Junior member up to 14 years - £20, 15-17 years £25
Associate member - £30
Social member for non-bowlers that wish to support the club £50
Family membership for two adults and children in the same household under the age of 14 - £320
We would ask that membership fees are paid by the end of March so that names can be added to the club handbook.
Fees may be paid directly to our treasurer Grant Cable by cheque, cash or by bank transfer (BACS – Account number 00102163, Sort Code – 80-05-14). Cheques should be made payable to Aberdeen Bowling Club. If paying by BACS please drop and email to Grant to let him know that you have done so (alangcable@gmail.com).
We are asking members if they would please complete our new membership form to ensure that we have the correct details and we are in line with our updated GDPR Policy.
We are looking forward to the Opening of our Green on Saturday 11 April at 2.00pm and hope that all our members will be able to attend. A warm welcome awaits you as we launch into our 2026 season.
The official opening will be at 2.00pm but please come along for around 1.30pm so that you can sign up for a game of bowls. The afternoon will be as follows:-
Official opening, a short game of bowls, afternoon tea. Hopefully the sun will shine for us, and we will have a fine day.
Competition entry forms will be available for you to sign up to the many competitions we have on offer this season. You will also be able to collect your club handbook and your coffee morning tickets. You will also be able to sign up for our 50/50 Club which we will be running again this season.
Norman has been busy organising friendly fixtures and making sure our calendar is ready for the beginning of the season. The application form for club competitions will be available at the club on opening day. We hope that members will enter as many club competitions as possible. Entry forms should be submitted with a £5 fee by the end of April.
There will be a Carlton Quiz Night on Saturday 28 March at 7.00pm in the clubhouse. This is to be a joint ABC/Carlton Place community event, which will be organised by the Carlton Place Committee. We hope that our members will come along and support this event and join in the fun and games. More information will be available before the event.
We are having our Club Coffee Morning on Saturday 25 April from 10.00 - 11.30 am in the clubhouse. We hope that you will promote this with family and friends and come along to support this event. We would welcome contributions of cakes from our members. We are hoping that neighbours and prospective members will be able to come along and view our facilities. We would ask again that you invite friends, family, and neighbours to come along and support us.
In preparation for the Opening of the Green, we invite members to come along on Friday 27 March at around 10am to help out with cleaning the clubhouse and preparing the green and grounds for opening (putting out benches, arranging rinks, weeding and gardening etc). Coffee and butteries will be provided for the workers!
We are hoping for new members to ensure the future of our club so please bring along a friend or recommend the club to friends, relatives, or anyone who is looking to take up a new sport. There are bowls available at the club for anyone who wishes to have a go.
There will be trials at Whitehall Bowling club on Saturday 25 April at 10.00am for any of our lady members who wish to trial for the ADLBA Inter-Association Team. Please let me know if you are interested in attending the trials.
Kind regards
Karen Cable
